THE STORY OF REBUL PHARMACY AND REBUL LAVANDA

Rebul Pharmacy was founded in Istanbul, Beyoglu with the name “Grande Pharmacie Parisienne- Grand Paris Pharmacy” in 1895 by Jean Cesar Reboul. The historic place that has witnessed the late period of the Ottoman Empire is the only pharmacy still open in its original address, today. 

Kemal Müderrisoğlu, one of the first pharmacists in the history of the Republic of Turkey started working for Monsieur Reboul in 1920 as an intern at his second year in college. Showing remarkable and exemplary accomplishments together, Müderrisoğlu and Monsieur Reboul’s relationship continued for many years, like father and son.

In 1938, the Turkish people were introduced to Lavender Cologne for the first time. In the beginning, the lavender cologne was made of pure lavender oils distilled and released from lavender flowers growing in Mr. Reboul’s own garden. Later, lavenders from Southern France started being used.  Each year lavender flowers are picked from the Grasse (Southern France) before sunrise and they are distilled, releasing the very pure lavender oil which make our lavender colognes, today.

In the year 1939, Monsieur Reboul went back to his homeland leaving his pharmacy, the apple of his eye, to young and hardworking Kemal Müderrisoğlu who was his only living next of kin, at the time. The pharmacy’s name then changed to Rebul. Rebul Lavender Cologne, REBUL LAVANDA soon became the cologne of Istanbul’s gentlemen and especially Pera’s men. In time, REBUL LAVANDA became much more than just a cologne. It became a unique legacy passed on from fathers to sons. It became a popular men’s perfume, a miraculous hair product used by barbers to relieve their customers of stress and a prestigious gift.   In 1981, Rebul Lavender Cologne was granted a gold medal by the International Beauty Products Quality Control Center.
